Lance

UPDATE! Lance was adopted in late 2023 by one of our previous adopters. He’s loving life in his forever home with three other former Whiskers cats!

Lance was living with a group of other cats in the garage of an elderly woman who cared for them. When she passed away, her family asked Whiskers to come get the cats. He was about a year when he was rescued in 2021 and he seemed to be the leader of the other cats. They looked to him and followed his lead. He was also likely the father to many of the kittens at the site. He's a rare combination of loving with both cats and people. He's so loving, volunteers have nicknamed him, Lance Romance. He has such a great personality he was adopted quickly, but returned within a week because he urinated inappropriately. The adopters admitted they didn't assimilate him slowly and properly; instead, they brought him home and let him out of the carrier and into the midst of their busy household with other cats, dogs and children. It was believed that he acted out because he was stressed and overwhelmed. We took him back to the shelter and adopted him into a second home where he it was quieter and he would be the only pet. After five months there, they said he never quite settled and they didn't think he was happy, so they returned him to Whiskers. Although he's the perfect cat at the shelter, his personality in homes changes for some reason that we haven't yet figured out. He loves his life at the shelter where he receives lots of attention from the volunteers and lives in a cage-free space that he shares with some of the cats from his old garage days. Maybe someday another adopter will give him a chance, but until then, he will live out his life at Whiskers where he is doted upon and loved.
