Otis

Otis was rescued by a caring Fireman in Albany named Brian.  Brian heard of Whiskers from a friend and called us for assistance.  We happily retrieved Otis, who was not feral at all, but rather a well-rounded, happy-go-lucky boy.  When Otis was brought to the vet for his first check up he was dianosed with feline leukemia (FeLV). Since Otis had a scab on the back of his hind leg we think he was bitten by an infected cat while trying to run away.

Otis is being cared for by a Whiskers long-term foster Mom who cares for only FeLV kitties.  Otis is very fortunate to have found Whiskers.  He most likely would not have survived the winter outdoors, and he would not have been accepted by other shelters or rescue groups as most are not able to take in cats with feline leukemia.  Now, with the love and care from Whiskers, Otis will live out his life in the best possible circumstances, a home filled with love!

While Otis will be cared for his entire life in a Whiskers foster home, he is availalbe for adoption.  FeLV is contagious to other cats, but does not affect people or dogs so he could be adopted in to a home where he is the only cat or he could live with other FeLV cats.  Please consider sponsoring this sweet boy to help give him the best life possible.

UPDATE May 2016: It is with great sadness that we report that little Otis passed away.  His life may not have been long, but it was full of love and joy in his foster home.  We thank his generous sponsors and are especially thankful for the wonderful foster who gave him a loving home for the short time he had on earth.
