Kitten Kaboodle Time!

It's Kitten Season! They're all so cute, and they all need homes and help from Whiskers. It's overwhelming, but also so rewarding that we can save these babies who might otherwise be lost. In order to help all of these kittens and moms, it can get costly. Every single kitten we take in (if they are really healthy) costs us at least $200 in testing, shots, general health care and spaying/neutering (and priceless love from their foster families!) before they are adopted out as healthy, loving wonderful woobies to all of you...with an adoption fee of just $75. In the last two weeks, we've taken in at least 19 babies, with many more on the horizon. If you want to help with our Kitten Season fundraising, please make a donation!  Even a small donation to Whiskers of $10 or less would help. We always appreciate your friendship and support!

Our kittens:

In mid-May, a Whiskers supporter contacted us about a beautiful long-haired
black and white mom cat and her four equally fuzzy and beautiful kittens who
took up residence in his attic crawlspace. With the assistance of the
homeowner, we were able to get them all out of the crawlspace. The homeowner
adopted two of the kittens, and the mom cat and her other two kittens are now
in foster care.

Towards the end of May, four kittens were rescued from around a trailer park.
It was discovered that two of the kittens have a condition known as radial
agenesis, meaning their front legs are congenitally deformed. These two kittens
have shortened radius, or bone, in their forearms, so they scoot around a bit.
Cats with this condition are sometimes called squittens- a melding of the words
"squirrel" and "kitten." All four kittens are now in Whiskers foster care,
fattening up for adoption.

In early June, a young cat was rescued from the busy traffic of Route 890. A
Whiskers friend was driving down the highway, and spotted the cat stuck on the
concrete divider, unable to safely move to either side, and crying out for
help. Our Whiskers friend stepped up as hero for the day, and pulled over and
rescued the cat, an all-black, six-month-old beauty, now named Elphie (aka
Elphaba). Elphie now has nothing to fear, and is safe in a Whiskers foster
home, thanks to one very brave and kind-hearted animal rescuer!

Also in early June, seven little kittens were rescued at Peebles Island Park
from a very dire and awful situation. The kittens had been taped up inside a
box and abandoned, but one of these very lucky and brave kittens escaped the
box, and wandered off and found help. Whiskers found the box and was able to
rescue all seven kittens, who are now all growing up together, safe and sound,
in the home of one our dedicated Whiskers foster families.

Another group of kittens, and their mom, were rescued from the area around the
Graybar Electrical Company in downtown Albany. An employee contacted us about
some kittens living in a group of pipes on the property, who were only emerging
for food. Our Whiskers volunteers arrived on scene, and were able to trap and
rescue all four kittens, as well as their mom cat, and they are now also in
foster care.

Most recently, Whiskers got a call from a kind restaurant owner in Schenectady
about some kittens who were left in his dumpster. A volunteer headed over
pronto, and was able to save a cute little orange tiger kitten. The others had
maneuvered themselves underneath the dumpster, and Whiskers is still in the
process of trying to rescue the rest of the kittens.

We couldn't save these kittens and mom cats without you! Click here if you can help and thank you!
