Carl
Carl is a favorite of our volunteers and Facebook fans. Carl came to Whiskers in 2005 afer his owner could no longer keep him. Carl is a very special guy who was born in 1998. He is sweet and gentle with people and he has a special way with the other cats. Often, when a new cat comes to the shelter and is scared and trying to find his way, the new cat finds his way to Carl and Carl will cuddle up with the newbie and make him feel safe. Carl has comforted dozens of other cats over the years and made them realize that Whiskers is a safe, loving place to be. He is also an ambassador to the humans that come into the shelter. He is usually found just inside the door when you come in so he's the first cat you meet. He will talk to people to get their attention and lead you to the sink so you can turn it on for him to get a drink. He's a beautiful guy with a white coat with small touches of tiger stripe patches and extra toes on his front feet. I know you're wondering why he's been at the shelter for over 10 years if he's such a great guy. Well, for some reason, Carl likes to pee where he's not supposed to. We've done many tests on him and it was determined that there's nothing medically wrong with him, it's just what he does. Whiskers knows this behavior is a deal-breaker to adopters so we kept him at our no-kill, cage free shelter all these years where he has enjoyed many loving relationships with the other cats and the volunteers. In October 2016, we noticed that Carl did not feel well so we took him to the vet. We found out that Carl is now diabetic and will require insulin shots. A kind volunteer stepped up to be his foster parent and take good care of our very special guy. Whiskers will continue to cover the cost of all his medical care while he is in the foster home. Insulin, syringes and other medical care will be expensive for Carl, but he is worth every penny! Please consider donating to the cost of the care of this wonderful, loving cat who has been a fixture at Whiskers and has helped so many of our cats. UPDATE: Our sweet Carl went over the Rainbow Bridge in 2016. He is greatly missed at Whiskers by the volunteers and cats alike.
